Jihad Qutub is a veteran of the advertising world with over 20 years experience in design, branding, production and creative leadership. He is a graduate of Portland State University (via the University of Miami in Florida) where he studied Graphic Design, and received a Bachelors of Arts in Marketing & Advertising Management.
After graduating, and working the unpaid internship route for a while, he went into writing and acting. He starred on stage in the play "Suburbia" and started a sketch comedy troupe called "Star Can't Dead" in which he wrote, performed & directed an unruly, talented crew of misfits and stand up comedians. In addition to all this he used his design skills to create unorthodox, yet compelling posters for the show, which went on every last Tuesday of every month running for nearly 3 years.
Because none of this actually paid very much money, he parlayed his penchant for the arts into his other passion - influential design and storytelling. Also known as advertising.
“I usually create with a mood in mind. I figure out how I want people to feel before I start putting my ideas together.”
He has since worked for, and with, some of the biggest design studios, agencies and brands in the world. He started out as a designer and flash animator at Nemo Design, working with brands like Nike, Smith Optics, and HP.
He then moved on to work with Weiden + Kennedy Portland, where as a studio designer he worked on campaigns for Coke, Starbucks, Nike and Google.
He has since worked with Swift Agency, Cinco Design, Juliet Zulu, and most recently Estée Lauder building a strong catalog of clients that include EA, Nexon, Toyota, Puma, Aveda, Atomic and many more.
Over the years he has made it a priority to have experience in all types of media and production creative, allowing him a better ability to direct from a place of experience. From print to interactive, he has become an expert in Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects and InDesign. While also taking the time to develop skills in Maya and Cinema 4D.
He has recently added Commercial Direction to his skills list, leading from behind the camera for a number of commercials for HP. He has also directed and worked with some of the biggest athletes in the world, as he is known to be somewhat of an athlete whisperer. He is also very much a fan boy.
When he isn't busting out creative ideas, Jihad is most importantly a father of two charismatic young boys, Kursi and Dezmon. He is also a huge sports fan (like all of the sports) and of course is a die-hard Trailblazer fan. Rip City.
